I awoke one day from a dream in which sky and sea were reversed. In this world it became apparent to me that “current” is a descriptor for movement in the world of both air and water, and resolved to explore this idea further in an art piece. Waterlily Sky is a mobile to be suspended from a tree on the Boston Common, consisting of a lightweight steel structure and even lighter waterlily elements hung upside-down; internally lit with LEDs. This way a viewer may look up into the sky and find the same movement sensation as they would looking down upon a gently drifting pond. I have also included a light which when shone on the sculpture will create the iridescent patterns of light refracting off of the surface of a lake.
